You could grow the berries yourself and get as much as you can eat for a small period once a year. Or you can pay the premium to have so so berries all year long.

No transpo to the Whole Foods for the 5$ organic berries and/or why waste 5$ of the EBT on berries?

Also, how many city neighborhoods have berry bushes for the pickin?

superttthero (May 15, 2019 - 9:41 am)

That's not why. Its laziness and taste.

You're comparing the cheapest prepared food to a premium fruit.

A whole banana is more filling and cheaper. A bag of apples breaks down to be cheaper per item. Hell even things like berries are cheap certain times of year. Right now my grocery store is selling a large package of strawberries for $2.50 (less than half what it is other times of the year).

I'm not here to fault poor people... MOST people eat unhealthy, but the idea they are victims of some price scam on food is bullchit.

Black Berries are usually cheaper.

SuperT aren’t you clearing 6 figures? Going to grocery multiple times a week to get fresh produce isn’t practical—average Joe does 50 hours manual labor OTR or outside; Jane is at a call center same hrs likewise. They maybe crack 64k combined.

Michellina’s and Frozen Green Giant. Period.

1) 2 kids in day care
2) Trying to teach them to like healthy food
3) Trying to kill loans
4) Trying to eat healthier myself

If you go to Whole Foods and buy the things you consider most healthy, your're gonna go broke. It takes effort to learn to find healthier cheap food and how to cook it. I'm not faulting poors for choosing cheap food that that tastes good and is convenient, but eating healthier on a budget is not some impossible thing, it just takes some effort and time.

As for going multiple times a week, I do all my shopping Sunday evening and our fruit (the fastest thing to spoil) makes it to the next weekend generally. I buy green bananas to eat later and eat things that go bad quickly earlier in the week.

Cool story bro...

It funny how people ain't got no time to eat healthy or clean their houses... But you never see anyone being short on time for going out to expensive food joints, boozing, or overpriced vacations. Becky is never too tired for a vacation haha

That's why it's called "effort."

I totally believe that there is a section of the population that literally cannot find 3 hours a week to shop, prep meals, and cook. I don't believe that this situation applies to the majority of people. If my wife and I can do it with 2 very demanding full-time jobs, 2 kids, and with (for me) a 1.25 hour commute each way, then most people can too.

Middle class family can't afford 5 dollar 4oz box of berries either.

Why organic? An organic mcdouble would probably cost $10.

Just pay .77 a pint for regular berries and rinse them. I always buy either blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries depending on what’s on sale and never pay more than a dollar for 6 oz of berries.

Your tin foil hat is showing. McDoubles are what cause chronic disease and put you in an early grave. The benefits of eating organic are negligible. I wouldn’t buy organic unless it was within 10% price difference and even then I don’t bother. You are paying for paperwork.
