"There were 21,995,000 employed by federal, state and local government in the United States in August, according to BLS. By contrast, there were only 12,329,000 employed in the manufacturing sector."

Even considering we have the largest military, 22 million government employees still sound like a significant number. And around around 153.34 million people were employed in US, so that means around 1.4 out of 10 people are employed by the government. It does sound like a significant portion. I wonder how many of these government employees can be replaced by computers

Not saying it isn't too many, but the US has fewer public sector employees per capita than western Europe and about half as many per capita as Scandanavian countries.

It's a good thing the public sector employs so many because the private sector has failed us. How many corporations packed up their operations and moved overseas due to corporate inversions? Our domestic auto manufacturers left Detriot a shell of it former self, the same goes for the rest of our manufacturing base in our midwest rust belt states.

As for costs, how much did the private sector cost us during TARP? 800 billion?
