quantamacro (Oct 13, 2017 - 3:54 pm)

Most conspiracy theories are simply the result of extemporaneous misperception/incompetence. For things like active shooters, something as simple as a echo can cause a cop to report the source of gunfire incorrectly. Thus, causing someone prone to these theories to exclaim, "SEE!! there is evidence of multiple shooters!!".

I think most minds conclude two shooter theory is fact. I have really been digging into the trio theory where the security guard was the third shooter and /self.

In fact the two shooter theory is a bit lame to me, and I support the trio theory now. I have heard that the LVPD may have been in on it but not enough theorycrafting on it to get my attention.

'Witnesses Go Missing Or Dead After The Mandalay Bay Massacre'

"Was Stephen Paddock the lone perpetrator of the Mandalay Bay massacre? I don’t know, but the recent spate of missing or deceased eyewitnesses who defied the deep state narrative that Paddock was the only shooter has me questioning everything about the official line on this crime of the century."

I know someone like this. He's a decent guy, but there is, no joke, not one major news story in the last five years that he has not claimed some conspiracy angle.

Plane crashes are his particular catnip, but he'll run with anything. When I first met him he didn't seem tin-foil hat crazy so I thought it might be some sort of elaborate Andy Kaufman type prank, but I'm now convinced he's serious.

He's not the only one I've run into here in Japan. My pop psychology theory is that since most of the people prone to this seem to have poor Japanese, the lack of language ability in a lot of older foreigners leads to social isolation and either triggers or exaggerates this kind of conspiratorial thinking.

It is a sense of superiority that triggers conspiracy theorists: "You can fool the sheeple out there, but I am a smart, independent thinker, and even if I didn't go to one of your fancy universities, I can tell when I am being lied to." Conspiracy theorists are people who believe they should be at a higher station in life than they find themselves in, and refuse to accept the responsibility for that.

There is probably something to this. Many of the conspiracy theory people I run into in Japan are middle-aged guys stuck in dead-end English teaching jobs who have been doing the same crap for the same crap wages for the last 20 years.

I still think there's some link between poor language ability, social isolation, and conspiratorial thinking. But I can see how those things also fit with your "sense of superiority while refusing to take responsibility" explanation as well.

whiteguyinchina (Oct 16, 2017 - 5:41 am)

there are many reasons. but if you have ever seen from the inside how big business or politics works, or how people with big money act, or how PR or lobbyists operate, you see its all about multiple layers, duplicity, scheming.

it has to be, because the stakes are so huge. only children and the proles live in a one dimensional universe. the rich and powerful who rule the world play different kinds of games.

that's why rich and poor people don't send their kids to the same school. so wentsworth and charles can, 15 years later, settle things quietly between each other. and let becky report a different story to billy bob, juan, and antoine.

I don't think it has anything to do with trying to make yourself look smart to other people or believing you should be in a "higher station in life." People like me have a feeling we are being lied to (there is so much evidence of this in the MSM). For instance, we supposedly have thousands of media organizations reporting the news, but they all report their various stories from the same angle. When you dig deeper, you find that they are all owned by just a handful of like minded, global companies. No one who watches or reads their "news" has the slightest idea what the hell is really going on. I like to find the truth of all matters, and I am driven to investigate beyond what is being reported.

I used to get ridiculed all the time here for espousing so-called conspiracy theories such as the New World Order agenda. Yet, since the recent presidential election, the puppet politicians who do the bidding of the wealthy people behind the Anglo-Saxon NWO don't even hide or deny this agenda anymore.

As I have mentioned many times, it is too bad Robert Taft never became president. The evil, liberal, global NWO probably would not have such a tight grip over foreign governments and industry (especially in the West), the neocons would not be our most powerful politicians, America may have never meddled in foreign affairs (no Vietnam, Gulf Wars, etc.), and we would probably be a more homogeneous nation with less crime and deep state surveillance (and we would have more individual liberties).

The propaganda piece below has been disseminated to thousands of news sources this morning, written in hundreds of different ways yet with the same voice behind it. However, if you look at the comments, the people are beginning to wake up. They reject McCain's defense of the NWO and much of what it stands for:

'McCain Slams 'Half-Baked, Spurious Nationalism' Sweeping US in Passionate speech'
Good Morning America

"Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., slammed "half-baked, spurious nationalism" in an impassioned speech while accepting the Liberty Medal in Philadelphia this evening. McCain, who was presented with the medal by former Vice President Joe Biden, began by saying he was humbled by the award before eventually lashing out at the nationalism that has swept the U.S. and warning against leaving the nation's place of prominence in the international community.

"To fear the world we have organized and led for three-quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain the last best hope of earth for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history," McCain said, to applause."

It's easy to write off anyone who puts forth an alternative theory about an event or how the world works as a cook so you don't actually have to question your own beliefs. If you can lump people who make legitimate, plausible, evidence-backed "conspiracy theory" arguments in with the crazy homeless man who stands on the corner banging on about how the world is run by lizard people, you can dismiss them both in one easy motion. No cognitive dissonance, no admission of ignorance.

Are most of the MSM biased hacks with an agenda? Sure.

Every single plane crash proof of some grand new world order conspiracy? No.

Since I've known him, the guy I mentioned above has not let one major news story pass without claiming some kind of conspiracy angle. He has a hard time linking all the events to an overall master plan, but I've been assured it's there, man.

I used to give him a few minutes of my time just to hear his wacky take on things. But lately he's started talking about chemtrails and I've told him I don't have any time for that crap.

Paddock's half-sister was at a fundraiser in Palm Springs a few days earlier where Eric Trump was spotted alongside Steve Bannon with a suitcase. The quad killer theory: Paddock, Security guard, Bannon's hired gun, and Paddock's GF's radicalized ex-lover.

It makes the most sense. Eric Trump's suitcase contained substantial Trump money that was used to finance the hotel room, bullets, and all other logistics. It goes all the way to the W.H., just like Watergate.

Conspiracy theories appeal to our brains on a neurological level: We are hard-wired to look for intentionality and patterns where they don't exist because we don't like to believe that anything disastrous is just random:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZtM21iqTos

The truth is, we have created a country where getting gunned down in a mass shooting is like a natural disaster: Just a random event that could happen to anyone at any time, and there isn't much that can be done to prevent it so long as a random crazy guy with no record can buy all the guns he wants. Conspiracy theories are appealing because they take the randomness out of life. But life is random, and loan shooters are quite capable under current law of committing mass murder with no outside assistance whatsoever. There is no bigger explanation.

shuiz (Oct 18, 2017 - 5:58 pm)

Maybe it's my brain looking for patterns where none exist. But I think there's something to the "loss of control" aspect that pushes a lot of socially isolated foreigners in Japan into conspiratorial thinking.
