Sounds like a collections firm that wants secretaries who also happen to have the credentials to legally muscle their deadbeat debtors when they get them on the phone. It appears far more clerical than legal or even analytical. Obviously it would be a horrible career move that could have a lasting impact on his future prospects.

God forbid your friend start his career with this. This is basically a collections department phone bank from what I can tell. Deadbeats call in, the entry level attorney argues with them about their bill, rinse and repeat. Apparently the entry level attorney's responsibilities also include "opening and processing mail." If the location in an "attractive Miami office park" is what they are peddling as a perq in their ad, your friend should really hold out for something else if at all financially possible. Indeed, the whole thing smacks of an attempt by the employer to avoid paying overtime by staffing its call center with "professionals" who are FLSA exempt. Why pay a HS grad time and a half for hours worked over 40 when you can avoid OT by hiring a "professional" law school grad who will only have a marginally higher base but no OT potential?

I suspect this is primarily or exclusively healthcare collections, based on all the HIPAA stuff. Does your friend enjoy harassing poor people over their hospital bills? If so, full speed ahead. Personally, I'd rather be a corrections officer (= prison guard), and that's about the worst job I can think of.

Once you hop on the collections treadmill you can only speed up or slow to a crawl. You can't get off.
