Interviewing for an associate counsel position with an insurer that focuses on life, disability, and worksite insurance. I've always treated these types of insurers with suspicion, but this one has been around for over a century and has cultivated a good reputation in the area. Moreover, the mere opportunity to go in-house and escape low level ID is tempting. Duties include providing legal support to corporate departments, managing litigation, assisting with insurance product development, and ensuring compliance. FWIW, I'm settled in a smaller secondary market with very few in-house opportunities.

Has anyone worked in a similar role? Can anyone comment on this type of position more generally?

Dude, I'm in Cali. I work as GC/Litigation for a staffing agency. We send temp employees to our clients they file a suit -wage/hour, wrongful term, harassment, retaliation etc against the client, the owner and the staffing agency.I represent the staffing agency in litigation.Last week they asked me to rep. also the client and the owner.Monday planning to decline!Conflict of interest and malpractice keeping in mind the amount of work that has to be done by one person not a law firm with staff. As GC doing all HR work and they plan to train me in workerscomp.Pay 90 K, with 3 years experiense.
Be careful what they might ask you to do.
